If you have a personal page on Facebook, you were likely sent a creepy, algorithm created video featuring hands moving photos of your personal friends and family across the screen. Facebook called it “Friends Day”.
Everyone got one.
And on the surface – it was pretty wild… until it was creepy.
Facebook is making other changes intended to give users a better experience… while giving them more information about you.
What’s the plan?
Facebook will soon roll out a new way to “Like” a post. As it is now – if you see a post that gets your attention, you have just one way to grade it. You “Like” it. And that applies whether the post is a heartfelt story from a friend or news of terrorist attacks in Paris.
Well – Facebook is going to be changing things up – and creating emoticons that you can select instead that allow for a far more accurate expression of how users feel about each post. Facebook believes this new feature will allow their algorithms to more accurately predict what to post in each users daily newsfeed. While that is true – it will also allow Facebook to get even creepier than “Friends Day”.
On a more positive note – if you are a business using Facebook to promote your business – you now have new targeting tools.
Until now, Facebook has allowed for highly targeted ad placements – but not the ability to target the customers of competitors. That’s changing. Facebook is now allowing advertisers to target those who have an “interest” in a competitor’s page. To use this feature, simply go the interests section in targeting and type in the names of your competitors. If they have a following of any size – Facebook will allow you to include those people in your ad targeting.
