Well – yet another generation of iPhones has hit the market… the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.
What makes these new devices – called “phablets” so appealing to consumers?
Screen size is a major reason. The iPhone 6 is almost 18% larger than its predecessor and the Plus is almost 38% larger. If you have seen either device – you know how much bigger they are.
Why the trend? Consumers are demanding better and larger screens to enhance their app use experiences.
So are they popular? Yup.
Do folks spend more time on them? Yup. Session lengths are longer the larger the screen. App launches are up on those devices as well.
What does this mean for marketers… if you have a mobile focus – and you should – make sure your engagement strategies match the new technology – and longer session lengths. Consumers are much more likely to hang around your site or your app on these babies.
And what does it mean for tablets and traditional smartphones? Tablets are already declining as a percentage of all mobile devices – and doing so rather sharply. Does this mean tablets are going to go away? No – but it does mean that they will occupy more of a niche role. And traditionally sized smartphones – expect the same outcome predicted for tablets…
