SEO is not what it used to be. Why? The major search engines like it that way.
It is estimated that Google – the 9,000 pound gorilla in the room – tweaks its search algorithms weekly if not more often.
So what is an SEO manager to do?
Here are two steps that continue to be highly effective and that every manager should make a priority.
- Link building. Ok. Honestly…This one is another that is not what it used to be… There was a time – not long ago – when backlinks had value almost regardless of how one secured them. Well that was then. While backlinks still matter a great deal for page rank – only quality backlinks will help you. Perhaps Matt Cutts from Google puts it best: “the object is not to have your links appear natural. The object is to have your links be natural.”
- Add content that answers your visitors’ questions. And do that often. As you have undoubtedly read, Google is working to perfectly match the queries of its online searchers to search results. With that in mind, consider taking every question prospects pose and addressing it on your website (each question being a new page/article on the site). Over time, this strategy will help enormously.
